Choosing your first flute for practising can be a bit daunting since people come with all type of advice stating what to choose and what not to. Even if you ramble into shops, you can come across flutes with different makes, models and types. They all vary in price too. Perplexed? Right?

Flutes are costly and you would not spend a lot on something that you are not sure of as a beginner. The process doesn’t end on purchasing a flute; it requires proper care and maintenance too.

There is no benefit of buying something costly only to neglect it later.

Therefore, if you are a beginner and looking out for flute, then your search is over. I have come with some tips that will help you with a beginner’s flute-

1) Research on Different Available Brands-

Look for various brands, shapes and sizes on Flute & Flutists to buy that suits your needs. They deal in a wide variety of flutes and have a network of flutists who can help you learn it.

Another thing you can do is to visit various stores based on your online research to compare the quality and price. This will help you make a clear choice.

2) Be Careful of Cheap Flutes-

Flutes are expensive but if you find a beautiful flute at a very low price, then it must be avoided at all cost. Low-quality flutes can be found in supermarkets, high-street chains and online stores that sell their local brands.

They may be cheap, but the running cost is high. Cheap flutes are not easy to play even if you are an advanced player because of the quality of sound it produces. I have come across many players who gave up just because they thought they were not good enough, but the actual problem was the low-quality flute.

Therefore, opt for a little higher in price flutes that are durable, produce better sounds and are low-maintenance.

3) Do not Purchase Something that is not designed for Beginners-

A good quality beginner flute is light-weight, easy to play and not designed with complexity. Therefore, keep these three things in mind when out go out for purchasing a flute.

Otherwise, a professional flute is heavier, offer the fuller sound and extended projection that an advanced player needs.

4) Stick to Traditional Specifications-

When you have just entered the world of flutes, do not experiment. Stick with the traditional specifications and according to them a beginner must start on a silver-plated flute with E-mechanism, C-foot joint and closed holes. A flute with these specifications will make easy learning and understanding. If you do not want to continue with the classes, then these can be sold easily.

5) Take help from a flutist-

A flutist knows what is good for a beginner. Therefor contact a flutist for better advice because they are trained professionals who can guide you through buying the right piece of instrument and can help you with the lessons.
